2015 - TEN YEARS OF CONSULAR ACTIVITY
The Honorary Consulate General of the Republic of Latvia in Peru was founded on 18th of November, 2005.

The Honorary Consul General of the Republic of Latvia in Peru Dr. Raul Lozano Dr. RAUL LOZANO MERINO who initiated his activity in the same date.

Dr. Raul Lozano Merino is a practicing lawyer, founder and main partner of Lozano & Cia. Abogados law office with its headquarters in Lima, Peru. Dr. Lozano Merino specializes in international economic law, corporate law, transport law – aeronautic law and international commercial arbitration.

Dr. Raul Lozano Merino is a founder and a former president of the Peruvian - Baltic Chamber of Commerce and Industry.

The bilateral relations between the Republic of Peru and the Republic of Latvia are based on the common interest to amplify its political ties with other democratic countries and diversify the economical and cooperation relations, particularly with other market economies.

BILATERAL AGREEMENTS

Bilateral agreements in force between the Republic of Latvia and the Republic of Peru:

Agreement between the Government of the Republic of Latvia and the Government of the Republic of Peru on Cultural, Scientific and Educational Cooperation.

Agreement between the Government of the Republic of Latvia and the Government of the Republic of Peru on the Waiver of Visa Requirements for the Holders of Diplomatic, Special and Service Passports.

OFFICIAL VISITS AND PARTICIPATION IN THE INTERNATIONAL FORUMS

The Honorary Consulate of the Republic of Latvia in Peru has hosted a number of visits of high rank authorities of the Republic of Latvia including the visit of the ex-president of Latvia Dr. Valdis Zatlers in order to participate in the Summit of ALCUE. During the visit a park on the cost of the Pacific Ocean that carries the name of Latvia was inaugurated.

The Honorary Consulate General of the Republic of Latvia in Peru has participated in the organization of the visit of ex-Mayor of the capital of Latvia, Aivars Aksenoks, who visited Cusco in the framework of the Reunion of the Cultural Patrimony of UNESCO. The Honorary Consul General has received several visits of EU parliamentary of Latvia, Inese Vaidere.

The delegation of the Honorary Consulate General of the Republic of Latvia in Peru has participated in the Latin-American, Caribbean and European Union Forum, First sectorial dialogue on the climate change, 40th General Assembly of Organization of the American states and COP20 UN Conference of the Climate Change.

On December 2014 the Honorary Consul General welcomed the Minister of the Environment and Regional Development of Latvia Mr. Kaspars Gerhards and the delegation of the Republic of Latvia that participated in the UN Conference on the climate change COP20 that took place in Lima, Peru.

Dr. Raul Lozano Merino, the Honorary Consul General has received an Award of Gratitude from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Latvia for his contribution in development of relations between Latvia and Peru. The award was received in the city of Madrid, Spain.

CONSULAR AND DIPLOMATIC RELATIONS

Dr. Raul Lozano Merino has been nominated to represent then president of Latvia Mrs. Vaira Vike Freiberga and current president Mr. Andris Berzins in the ceremonial acts of transmission of the mandate of the President of Peru in 2006 and 2011. He also participates in the diplomatic and consular reunions organized by the consular and diplomatic corps of Peru, international organizations and Peruvian entrepreneurs.

Dr. Raul Lozano Merino is one of the founders of the Consular Corps of Peru.

Every two years the Honorary Consul participates in the reunion of the Honorary Consuls of Latvia that takes place in Riga, the capital of Latvia. During reunions the official visit and the reception with the President of Latvia is organized as well as meetings with the Prime Minister, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, the Minister of Economy, Mayors of Municipalities, Latvian entrepreneurs and representatives of the important companies among others. Different regions of Latvia are visited in order to get acquainted to business possibilities.

COMMERCIAL RELATIONS

In 2007 the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Latvia and the Honorary Consulate General of Latvia in Peru with the support of the Chamber of Commerce of Lima organized the first commercial mission from Latvia to Peru.

Dr. Raul Lozano Merino is the founder of the Peruvian - Baltic Chamber of Commerce and Industry, a member of the Association of the European Chambers in Peru.

In 2011 Dr. Raul Lozano Merino was a director of the Chamber of Commerce of Lima.

In July, 2014 he was named an official representative of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of the Republic of Latvia in Peru.

CULTURAL RELATIONS

During ten years representing Latvia in Peru the Honorary Consulate General has dedicated his work to strengthen and promote the business opportunities and commercial relations between the countries, cultural relations, cooperation in the field of education, promoting of Latvian artists among others.

The Honorary Consulate has always promoted the cultural patrimony of Latvia. During ten years of cultural activity the following events has been organized: the demonstration of the movie Guards of Riga in Lima, four concerts and participation in the International Jazz Festival of Peru of Latvian band - Jelgavas Big Band; together with Philharmonic Association a concert of a famous Latvian pianist Armands Abols as a part of the celebration of the Independence day of Latvia, together with Philharmonic Radio the presentation of the Latvian flautist Agita Arista and pianist Kristine Griffin; reception in honor of team of Latvia of Dakar Rally in Lima; in the framework of Lima Art week the exhibition of the famous Peruvian painter Joselito Sabogal in the premises of the Honorary Consulate General of Latvia.

The Honorary Consulate General has been the host of visits of the high – rank officials of the Republic of Latvia to Peru, visits of Latvian artists and business people among others. The independence day of Latvia has been widely celebrated in Lima, even with a reception in the great historical monument and landmark of Lima – Huaca Huallamarca.

COOPERATION IN THE FIELD OF EDUCATION

As the future implementation of the existing bilateral treaty in the field of education, the Honorary Consul General together with the Riga Technical University will be developing projects of cooperation with Peruvian Universities.
